Marigold Extract
The marigold extract comes from the marigold flower, also known as Tagetes erecta, noted for its bright yellow and orange colouring and therapeutic features. The petals get harvested; they are then extracted with a solvent, such as hexane or ethanol, to isolate dose forms of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are the major carotenoids in the marigold flowers. These are essential in maintaining the health of the eyes and overall antioxidant support. The extract is then purified by getting rid of impurities so that a high concentration of lutein is achieved for formulation into several supplements or used in food fortification.
A lutein of marigold flowers is mostly used in eye health support. Being an antioxidant with the cool properties of lutein and zeaxanthin, it protects effectively against age-related macular degeneration and cataracts, acting as a natural filter inside the retina, reducing the harmful effect of blue light and oxidative stress. It is widely found in dietary supplements that are designed for promoting and maintaining healthy vision and protecting the eyes from digital screens.
Lutein, commonly supplemented from extracts of marigold flowers, is a carotenoid that given regularly can improve visual function by increasing contrast sensitivity and reducing glare sensitivity. As an antioxidant, lutein also contributes to skin and cardiovascular health. A standardized marigold extract ensures efficient levels of lutein for optimal maintenance of healthy eyesight and overall antioxidant defense against free radicals.
